All India Bar Exam (AIBE) 2015 Pattern, Syllabus, Model Papers & Prep Books

What is the AIBE Exam Pattern? Where to find the AIBE Syllabus? This blog post answers these questions as well as provides you the Sample Papers and Prep Books for AIBE Exam.

This blog post of mine follows an earlier blog article titled: AIBE Exam 2015 Dates, Notification & Application Form which tells you that if you are a law graduate passing out in academic year 2009-10 or later, you must clear the AIBE exam before you can begin to practice in the court of law.

While that blog post introduces you to the AIBE exam, telling you what are the eligibilities, where to find the forms along with the schedule dates of AIBE 2015, this blog post would help you prepare for the exam with study materials – it would give you the AIBE exam pattern and than go on to give you the syllabus and sample papers for AIBE.

All India Bar Exam Pattern:

AIBE would have 100 multiple-choice (objective type) questions from 19 subjects. Duration of the exam is 3-n-half hour.

The 19 subjects in AIBE paper is split into two categories: Category-1 & Category-2: the first comprises subjects that may be considered ‘foundational’ in nature, those that form the basis for large areas of law. The second comprises other subjects, which a new entrant to the legal profession must also have a basic understanding of. The 100 AIBE questions will be divided into ‘knowledge-based’ and ‘reasoning’ questions. You can have a fair idea about the pattern of All India Bar Exam from following table:

Further All India Bar Exam would be an “Open-book’ exam, you are allowed to bring any prep-materials (such as the prep-material provided by AIBE, textbooks and treatises and even handwritten notes). But electronic gadgets such as laptop, cell-phones etc. would be barred.

The emphasis throughout is on assessing an advocate’s understanding of an area of law, rather than assessing how much he/she can cram up – memorizing large texts or rules.

Also AIBE result would just say you – whether you have passed or failed – BCI would not declare percentage, percentile, rankings, or absolute marks.

There will be total 23 questions in Category II subject. This will include questions from at least 5 subjects out of 9 subjects as given above.
