HPCL Officer Trainee Exam 2012 date has drawn closer -  barely three days from now i.e. on 12th August 2012 (Sunday) at 10 AM it would be held. HPCL has published detailed exam pattern/syllabus for each of the disciplines as well as the Sample papers. This blog article focuses on providing you the prep materials for HPCL Engineer/Officer Trainee Exam - it at first discusses the pattern of HPCL recruitment exam and than goes on to point you to the sample papers & prep books for the same.

This blog article also follows my previous blog article titled: HPCL Recruitment 2012 Notification, Form & Eligibility which informs you about this exciting job opportunity with HPCL. Both of these two blog posts (i.e. the current and the previous) would help not only the examinees who are going to take the test on 12th August, but also for future examinees - for example content of this article can be used as prep material for HPCL Officer Trainee Exam 2013 (say), since the exam pattern or the syllabus of PSU does not changes so often.

At the very outset, let me tell you that materials available on the net for  HPCL Trainee Exam is scarce - almost non-existent. Hence, the prep materials given here is gathered from similar exams for Engineer/Officer Trainee conducted by other public sector organisations like SAIL, NTPC, BHEL etc.

HPCL Engineer/Officer Trainee Exam Pattern:

HPCL, in its recruitment notification has not said much about the pattern of written exam except following:

The HPCL written exam will consists of Objective type questions in two parts:
Section-I:. General Aptitude test - It will consist of questions from:
i) Intellectual Potential

ii) Logical Reasoning
iii) Data Interpretation
iv) Quantitative Aptitude
v)Test of English Language

There are 85 question in this paper for all disciplines except Information System Officer, for which there will be 60 questions.

Section-II: Technical Knowledge test.
It will consist of questions specific to the qualifying disciplines/position applied for. There are 85 question in this paper for all disciplines except Information System Officer, for which there will be 90 questions.

Thus there are 170 question in total in HPCL Officer Trainee Exam  for all disciplines except Information System Officer, for which there will be 150 questions. Duration of HPCL Officer Trainee Exam is 2 hours (120 minutes). There is no negative marking.

This exam pattern is very similar to the pattern of exams by other blue-chip PSUs like SAIL, NTPC & BHEL, as you can see in the comparative study of the exam pattern of these three organisations - each of them has two test sections - General Aptitude & Technical. Why this information is important? Because you can appear in any PSU exam by preparing for any of the exams. For instance, you can use the sample papers & books of SAIL MT exam to prepare for  HPCL MT exam.

I could find not find any book published exclusively for HPCL trainee exam. However, since the exam pattern and standard of questions are similar for public sector recruitment exams, you can use the following books for engineering disciplines of HPCL written exam.
