Notification for Civil Services Prelims 2013 exam has come out on 5th March,2013 through advertisement no.: 04/2013. Submission of form has already started and the last date to submit form online for Civil Services Prelims 2013 is 4th April, 2013. As per the notification, the CS Prelims exam would be conducted on on 26th May, 2013.

How tough is UPSC Civil Services Exam:
Yes, since this exam chooses the crème de la crème jobs in India, it also happens to be one of the most competitive exams in India. To give you an idea, I am showing in tables below, number of applicants, number of candidates who appeared and number who were selected in both Prelims & Mains exam. This data was taken from 61st Annual Report of UPSC.

As you can see in the table, only 50% of those who applies for Civil Services Prelims exam actually appears in the exam – this must be a good news to you, since most of the competition is over at this stage only. In the Civil Services Mains Exam on the other hand, almost 97% who applied, actually appears for the exam.
Percentage of screening in the Prelims & Mains exam:
How much screening is done in the Prelims & Mains exam? In other words how many who appears in Prelims exam qualifies for the Mains and how many who appears in Mains exam actually are selected (Approx 1000 each year). The table above says you that – only around 6% of who appears in Prelims are selected for the Mains exam and about 8% of those who appears in Mains exam are ultimately selected.
Eligibility for UPSC Civil Services Exam:
You have to fulfill following eligibility criteria for Civil Services Exam:
Age Eligibility: (As on 1st August, 2013)
Min: 21 yrs, Max: 30 yrs. (i.e. DOB not earlier than 02.08.1983 & not later 01.08.1992). There is relaxations in age for reserved categories as per Govt. rule: SC/ST: 5 years, OBC: 3 years, PH: 10 years.
Educational Qualification Eligibility:
You need to be a graduate in any discipline from a recognized institute/university.
Final year students of Graduation can also apply, but you have to produce the proof of passing the requisite examination, while applying for the Main Examination which is likely to be called sometime in August/September, 2013.
No. of permissible attempts in UPSC Civil Services Exam:
For General Category: Four
For Other Backward Classes: Seven
For SC/ST/PH: Any Number of attempts within maximum age as given above.
UPSC Civil Services Prelims Exam 2013 Online Form:
There is no offline application form for Civil Services Prelims Exam 2013. You have to apply Online only.
Application fee for Civil Services Prelims 2013 is Rs. 100/- (Female/SC/ST/PH Candidates are exempted from fee). This fee can be paid in any SBI Branch by Cash, or by using net banking or by credit card.
